What Is Groban Doing?
Let me start by admitting that I am, indeed, a Josh Groban fan. I’ll admit it. I’ve aligned myself with the the 40-65 year old, Oprah watching, female demographic and am a Grobamaniac. Well, maybe not as hardcore as my my mother and grandmother, but you get the point. So when I saw this tragic mess last night at the Emmy’s, I about threw up in my mouth.
Josh Groban is not supposed to be funny. He’s supposed to stand at a microphone and sing love ballads and songs in Italian and make my mother swoon. A funny take on a TV theme song medley is just not in the cards for him. So why? I had to watch a few live performances of him singing to remind myself as to why I like him in the first place. Not all of them were terrible, but here are the 5 that really bugged me:
5) The Simpsons: It was just weird
4) The Love Boat: This sounds like an awful cabaret performance
3) Fresh Prince of Bel Air: He just shouldn’t be allowed to rap
2) Friends: That weird voice he was singing in was just scary
1) Southpark: OMFG…did you hear him doing Kenny?
I will say, if he recorded a full version of the Jefferson’s theme song, I’d buy it. He kind of tore that one up. But the rest…why? The whole thing was one big mess. Oh Josh, what were you thinking?
I know it was wierd but I could not take my eyes of it. It was mesmerizing to watch Josh Groban so out of his element.
