RIP Estelle Getty

It seems silly sometimes to get upset over celebrity deaths. However, finding out that Estelle Getty died today made me a little teary eyed, I’ll be honest. Estelle Getty was the funniest part of watching the Golden Girls. As a young gay kid in the making, The Golden Girls touched on social issues no other shows would go near. They introduced sensitive topics in a way that was both provocative and heartfelt. Estelle Getty helped translate those issues on television with her role as Sophia. She was a wonderful actress and a beautiful person who will be very missed. In tribute, one of my favorite Sophia moments from the Golden Girls. It’s a long clip, but it shows both sides of the character, and might just pull at the heartstrings a bit.
