Who Wears A Power Suit & Glasses At 3am
Is it just me or is the 3am advertisement a bit tired these days? If you missed it, Hillary Clinton put out another “It’s 3am and I’m going to scare you into voting for me” advertisement, this time directing her efforts toward John McCain and the economy. The original message was placed strategically in Ohio and Texas before the primaries and was very reminiscent of something Karl Rove would have conjured 4 years ago. It was a message that worked from the politics of fear, something Bush has versed us all on for years.
Apparently her campaign feels like it works, but I can’t help but think this new one is a bit over the top. I loathed the first one, and thought it was completely ridiculous. However, this current advertisement makes me cringe for a couple reasons.
First, it’s completely cheesy, but meant to be taken serious. The thought that the majority of people won’t see through this is highly reflective of her pretension. Secondly, this is a video before another set of primary contests, and she is talking about the Republican candidate. It’s as if she’s assuming she’ll win Pennsylvania by a margin of 40 points, enough to make her viable again, and the American people will snap out of their Obama daze and nominate her. That is all, again, reflective of her pretension.
I wish this would just end.
